Our Sacred Valley to Machu Picchu tour, is an extension of our full day Sacred Valley Tour. On this two days trip from Cusco you will be given a guided tour of three prime archeological sites of the Sacred Valley of Incas – Pisac, Urubamba and Ollantaytambo.

The Sacred Valley of the Incas, as the name suggests, played an important role during the Incan civilization and continues to hold significance today. The valley boasts the most fertile soil in the country, with farms irrigated by fresh water from the Urubamba River. The first people who inhabited the Sacred Valley were the Qotacalla civilization, from 500 to 900 AD. Later, the Killke civilization took over from 900 AD until the Incas conquered the region in 1420.

One of the reasons why the Sacred Valley remains important is its lower altitude, resulting in a much warmer climate compared to Cusco. Aside from potatoes, maize was an important crop for the Incas, and today’s generations still consume a fermented beverage made from maize called Chicha.

This tour will take you to the heart of the Incan civilization. Our tour guides are locals from Cusco with extensive knowledge of the culture, history, and traditions. We are certain that you will gain a good insight into the life and history of the Incas on this Sacred Valley trip to Machu Picchu.

Itinerary

Day 1Cusco – Sacred Valley – Aguas Calientes

We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco between 08:10 and 08:20 in the morning. Our first stop will be in Pisac. Pisac is home to a massive archaeological complex located up a hill, offering a magnificent view of the valley below. The archaeological complex of Pisac is only second to Machu Picchu. We will drive you to the main entrance of the complex, where our local guide will provide a detailed tour, taking you to different areas of the complex.

Pisac is also famous for its local market, where nearby village locals sell their products, allowing you to find good deals on souvenirs.

Our next stop will be in the heart of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, in Urubamba. Here, we will stop at a local restaurant for a buffet lunch with options for vegans.

We will then travel to our last stop in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, Ollantaytambo. Ollantaytambo is an interesting town that showcases Incan architecture and houses an archaeological complex. After a guided tour of the sites here, you will board a train to Aguas Calientes town.

Aguas Calientes serves as a gateway to Machu Picchu. Our representative will meet you at the train station and accompany you to the hotel, where you will be accommodated in a basic room.

Early in the morning, you will take a bus to the main entrance of the Machu Picchu citadel. Our local guide will provide a complete guided tour of the renowned Inca City, where you will visit the remains of temples, royal quarters, ceremonial sites, agricultural terraces, and other areas.

After the tour, you will have some free time to wander through the cobbled stone paths of Machu Picchu or optionally hike up to the Sun Gate. If you intend to climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, please note that you are required to book your entrance in advance.

After the tour, you will take the bus back to Aguas Calientes town. You can have lunch (not included) before boarding the train back to Ollantaytambo. At Ollantaytambo train station, our representative will meet you and transfer you back to Cusco.
