Salkantay Trek to Machupicchu
Day 1: Cusco – Mollepata – Soraypamapa
Pick up from your hotel at 4:30 -4:50 am, taking our transport to Mollepata, lasting around 2 hours. Here we will meet our team of horsemen and get our camping gear ready. On the route we will have some interesting views of Salkantay and on leaving Cusco, a range of different ecosystems, valleys and the Tucarway and Humantay mountains. In addition to the abundant flora and fauna of the area, we will pass through small villages such as CRUZPATA and SILK’ACANCHA, finally arriving at our destination of SORAYPAMPA, the place of our first camp.
Day 2: Soraypamapa – Challway
Breakfast and start of our trek, beginning with Salkantay Pampa and continuing our route, climbing for 4 hours approximately, to the Salkantay-Humantay Pass (4600m), the highest point of the whole route. Here we will have a short rest and enjoy the views of the snowy mountains in all their splendor, with the possibility of seeing avalanches! We then descend in the direction of Huayracmachay and head for the edge of the jungle, specifically Challway. This last stretch of the walk offers spectacular flora and fauna and in addition, beautiful views of the landscape. Here we will set up out second camp.
Day 3: Challway – Sawayaku – Santa Teresa
This will be a spectacular day! After a breakfast we will begin our adventure once more and today the flora and fauna will be even more impressive than the previous day. We enter the jungle, following the course of the Santa Teresa river, discovering beautiful waterfalls, rope-bridges to cross, go for a dip in the river and see various species of orchid. After 5 hours of walking we will arrive at Sawayaku, also known as La Playa, to enjoy our lunch and take a bus for 45 minutes to Santa Teresa. After setting up camp, we will go to the medicinal baths at Cocalmayo, eat dinner and spend the night.

Day 4: Santa Teresa – Hidroelectica – Aguas Calientes
After breakfast, the lovers of adrenaline can have a go at the zip-line (optional extra cost) and then we continue our journey towards Hidroelectrica. We will have the chance to observe a few species of fruit, coffee plants and others. Finally we head for Aguas Calientes, where we will be staying in a hostel for the night with all the basic comforts. We will also coordinate with our guide the next and most important day of the journey; our trip to Machupicchu.
Day 5: Aguas Calientes – Machupicchu – Cusco
This morning after breakfast we will leave at 4:45am and ascend on foot to Machupicchu, 1 hour walk approximately. For those travelling by bus, it will take around 30 minutes. We will then have a guided tour of the Inca complex for two hours approximately, around the most important parts of the site, such as Temple of the Sun, the Intihuana (sacred rocks), Temple of the Three Windows, Temple of the Condor, The Mausoleum among many other fascinating places. Then you will have time to explore and take photographs on your own. If you wish, you can climb Huaynapicchu or Machupicchu mountains (both must be reserved in advance and with an extra cost). In the afternoon we will return to Aguas Calientes for lunch and visit the thermal baths while we wait for our train back to Ollantaytambo, where will then take the transport to back to Cusco arriving at around 20:00 pm.
